Aspie World 36 – Multiple Opinions

The other day I realized of something kind of strange. I can have different opinions of a subject, and all of those are my opinion, but it seems it doesn’t work in the same way with most people.

You see, about a specific subject, I can have not just one opinion but several, mostly depending on the unknown variables, which include physical circumstances that may not be known, and the opinions and concepts of other people that, depending on those, the approach to a subject would change.

Let’s say, as an example, that a friend of mine haven’t called me since he visited me last time. I could think he might be mad at me for the argument we had, which in this case my opinion is that he didn’t agree with me and he got mad for what I said. That would be one opinion I have.

Then, considering a variable, depending on my friend’s tendency to post analysis of concepts, he might still be thinking of what was said, in which case my opinion is that he is not mad, but simply taking his time to let the concepts explained in the arguments sink in.

And then, what if he has been so busy these latest days, that he simply hasn’t had time to give me a call; in which case my opinion is that he is not mad, he is just busy.

Three different opinions based on different possibilities. Each one is my solid opinion on the matter. One opinion is right and the others are wrong, but we don’t know which one is the correct, because we don’t know the variables. Once the variables become known, we will see which opinion was right. In the meantime, each opinion is solid and right, if the circumstances are in a specific way. For me, each opinion is solid, but people would consider them just possibilities.

It seems people mostly can accept in their minds only one solid opinion, and if there are variables (which is most of the times) they wouldn’t accept having different solid opinions, and would just call it as not having an opinion at all!

At the same time, they would consider someone having more than one opinion as someone who is changing his opinions all the times, based in that they themselves cannot have more than one opinion, so anyone having more than one have to be a confused person or someone that changes his mind, so he would be someone who’s opinion cannot be taken seriously. But the problem is that they themselves cannot accept more than one opinion in their heads at the same time, and so tend to think that everybody else should be the same like them.

Weird, isn’t it?
